Editorial & Corrections Policy

What our data is, where it comes from, the standards we hold it to, and how to tell us when something looks wrong.

What PlainFundData publishes

PlainFundData is an independent data-journalism publisher. We compile institutional-ownership references from public SEC Form 13F-HR filings in the EDGAR system and present them in a consistent, readable form. Every figure on an entity page, holder counts, reported values, concentration, quarter-over-quarter changes, is rendered directly from those filings at page-load. We do not estimate, model, or fill in missing values, and we do not publish opinions, ratings, or buy/sell recommendations.

Sourcing & accuracy

According to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, institutional managers with at least $100 million in qualifying assets must file Form 13F-HR every quarter. PlainFundData has compiled more than 120,000 reported positions from these public filings since March 2024, see our methodology for the full pipeline and source vintage.

Our sole data source is the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Form 13F-HR dataset. 13F is a quarterly disclosure of long US-listed equity positions filed by institutional managers with at least $100 million in qualifying assets, due within 45 days of each quarter-end. Because of that filing lag, the data is a quarter-old snapshot, not a live or complete view of any manager's holdings. We state these limitations on the pages where they matter rather than implying the data is something it is not. Where a number could be read as a superlative or headline, we scope it to what the filings actually support ("as of the latest reported quarter", "among the institutions we track").

Corrections

If a figure looks wrong, we want to know. Because every number is generated from the underlying SEC filing, most discrepancies trace to either the source filing itself or to how we standardize it, and we fix the latter at the source so the correction propagates everywhere the figure appears. To report a suspected error, email corrections@plainfunddata.com with the page URL and the value in question. We review reports and update the data on the next processing run.

Not investment advice

PlainFundData is an informational reference, not a financial adviser. Institutional ownership is one data point among many and does not predict security performance. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security. Always consult a licensed financial professional before making investment decisions.
